Why you need it
A buyer brings in a faulty boiler and says they bought it from you last year. The serial number wasn’t recorded at the sale, the receipt is lost, and nothing can be proved — to the customer or to the manufacturer.
The sale records the serial number, and from it you can see the buyer, the date, and the warranty period. A warranty claim runs through to repair or replacement, and claims to the manufacturer are compiled from the same numbers.
